Valentine’s Day: Three questions for that special someone…within.
Peter Holy
Today is D-Day…err, V-day. And for some of you, it’s a.k.a. Singles Awareness Day (SAD).
Whatever it might be called by you, there is cause to celebrate this day if for no other reason than to express gratitude for another chance to make today wonderful. It’s also the perfect day to consider your relationship with that special someone…within.
The relationship that you have with yourself is as important as the relationships you have with other people.
Here are three questions whose answers will let you know if the company you keep with yourself is a match made in Heaven:
1) Do you love spending lots of quality time alone with just you and yourself?
2) Can you talk about anything with yourself without judging or criticizing what you say and how you feel?
3) Do you trust that you’ve got your back when the going gets tough?
If you answered, “Yes!” to these three questions, then congratulations! You’ve recognized that you are your own soulmate. Only you can give yourself the love, respect and patience that you need. Others offering you these things is merely icing on the cake.
Don’t worry about it too much if you answered, “No,” or even “Hell no,” to one or all three of these questions.
It’s Valentine’s Day!
So, make sure to let yourself know that you love yourself today. Make a commitment to yourself that, if you can’t say anything nice, then you won’t say anything at all (being quiet in stillness is more than an adequate way of saying, “I love you”); finally, practice patience with yourself. Can’t look in the bathroom mirror and say, “I love you,” without feeling like a total cheeseball yet? Does your ego keep blurting out not-so-nice things about yourself? Patience is the practice of a true love.
Love, respect, patience.
Happy D-Day!
